transforming lunch breaks
Lunchtimes and playtimes are undoubtedly some of the most important times of a child’s day at school. It is where enjoyment and exercise are available, friendships are made or broken and children have the freedom to be themselves and let off steam.
Transforming lunchtimes and playtimes can literally transform your school. If children come in from playtime after playing wonderful playground games happy and ready to learn, their day will be more productive, but when children come in upset, having missed out on lunchtime games, feeling frustrated and wound up, then the afternoon will be less productive.
When we think of happy lunchtimes at schools, many of us will think of great playground games, these playground games can teach the children so much! It’s the Midday Supervisors role to encourage healthy interactions and play experiences during school lunchtimes.
how does it work?
We are committed to providing schools with the best possible lunchtimes and have a wealth of experience in transforming lunchtimes, we do this in several ways including:
• Providing simple games that Midday Supervisors can set up and lead
• Advantages of “young rangers” who can sustain lunchtimes with ownership
• Teach ways to be fully inclusive
• Encourage healthy eating
• Recycling
• Introduction of loose parts
• Risk assess playgrounds to plan a fun, safe and structured lunchtime
We train lunchtime/ midday supervisors on how to include sport and physical activities effectively during lunchtimes. Our training programme includes ways of teaching Midday Supervisors and Young Rangers simple playground games for them to set and lead during lunchtimes. These games are easily sustainable and come at a small price for happy lunchtimes.
