Is this course for me?

  • Are you interested in learning more about photography in a relaxed, creative way?
  • Would you like to capture a photograph that would make someone look twice?
  • Does nature and being outdoors inspire you?

If so, you're in the right place!

It is suitable for beginners with no/little experience, or for more experienced photographers wanting to look through their camera lens with fresh eyes.

Suitable for adults aged 18+

What will I expect to learn and do?

Although technical elements of photography will be touched upon in the learning, this is not a technical, theory- heavy course.

Instead, the emphasis is placed on practicing out in the field, creativity and appreciation of photography in new ways.

To achieve taking your desired images, you will cover the basics such as:

  • composition, including close-up and landscape
  • the use of available light
  • colour and contrast

By exploring Leavesden Country Park on foot, you’ll take photographs that convey your appreciation of the space- using the surroundings as inspiration.

Day 1

  • Introduction to the project and how the course will work, plus the opportunity to discuss any specific interests.
  • 2 x opportunities to explore and photograph on site.
  • Discussion and sharing of images, with plans for the next session.

Day 2

  • 2 x opportunities to explore and photograph on site.
  • Sharing of images, discussing the successes and challenges of each participant's best photograph.
  • Learn simple photo editing techniques.

There’ll also be the opportunity for:

  • self-led learning between the two sessions.
  • seeing your photographs uploaded to a dedicated web page afterwards.
  • displaying one or more of your photos in the Park.

You will need to attend both days, each one will have a one hour lunch break.

What would I need to bring?

A Smartphone with camera (basic knowledge of camera phone functions required)

or

a DLSR camera (knowledge of how to set camera to auto/program mode and turn the flash off is required)

Either of these options will need a full battery and plenty of free memory space.

Enthusiasm! Please bring your willingness to learn, have fun and share your photos with the group on the two days.

Suitable clothing and footwear to walk around the Park, depending on weather.

Please bring your own lunch or purchase something from the Woodlands Café.

Tea and coffee will be provided.
